Nature. Beauty. Gratitude

By Mary Jaksch

Beauty inspires gratitude. But only when we become aware of beauty.
Live rushes on and it’s easy to get immersed in the mind tape that takes about ‘me’, ‘mine’, ‘myself’ – instead of taking a moment to appreciate the beauty that is all around us.

Stop for a moment and appreciate whatever you see, hear, or feel right now. If you have a few minutes, watch the inspiring video below. Nature’s beauty can be easily missed – but not through Louie Schwartzberg’s lens. His stunning time-lapse photography, accompanied by powerful words from Benedictine monk David Steindl-Rast, serves as a gratitude meditation.

“Nature is not always tricked in holiday attire, but the same scene which yesterday breathed perfume and glittered as for the frolic of the nymphs, is overspread with melancholy today. Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

  3. Mary,

If we could only fill up our world with this kind of experience, imagine what things would look like !? For a few minutes I was completely transported to a place free of struggle, noise, fear, politics, greed, and suffering. Wow!

This was a treat for my soul. I can’t wait to share it with my family and friends. Thank you so much.

  7. I feel like I’ve been running in circles, feeling stressed and definitely not appreciating the beauty around me. Thank you for sending this out. It stopped me in my tracks, made me take a deep breath and smile. My 2 year old sat in my lap as I watched the video. She marvelled and pointed at each new scene in wonder. She helps me to remember how wonderful every little thing around us is.

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, for bringing perspective into my day x

    • Mary Jaksch says:

It’s a pleasure, Nicole! Actually, it doesn’t take much to bring perspective into our lives. Just taking a deep breath, just looking at a flower, or at the clouds can bring perspective back.

  11. I am grateful for the posting of this video. Tomorrow I will look up at the sky and watch and remember. Rain or snow, I will take time out and just look and wonder.

I LOVED the TED video on Nature and Gratitude.

It was wonderful to be reminded of the points that were so lovingly described in the Louie Schwartzberg video. I loved the images and the faces on all those joyful, interesting people.

I read a LOT and I try to read books that motivate and inspire. But sometimes when I get caught up in the aspects of my life that aren’t going to well… I lose perspective. This happens, some times, even when I try hard to remember to try and keep the proper perspective. Watching the video by Louie Schwartzberg reminded me of what’s important, helped me regain my perspective, and snapped me back from the funk I was in. To that I am very thankful and appreciative.

To learn, share and grow… that’s what it’s all about.

It’s so easy to forget how complicated, wonderful and mysterious – and yes, beautiful – the world around us is. Thanks for the reminder.
