11 Questions that lead to gratitude

By Mary Jaksch

It’s a good idea to look back and reflect on the year that’s just coming to an end. What are you grateful for?

  1. What made you happy?
  2. What energized you?
  3. What barrier did you overcome?
  4. What changed you?
  5. What triggered your creativity?
  6. What deepened your spirituality?
  7. What kindness did you experience?
  8. What did others do for you?
  9. What inspired you?
  10. What made you feel good?
  11. What difficulty taught you an important lesson?

Gratitude is a mind state that leads to happiness and contentment. So, it’s good to go forward into the new year with a grateful heart. We can get caught up in negative emotions, like resentment or anger. But such emotions are destructive and painful for you as well as for others.

Whenever you notice that you’re energy is negative, ask yourself:
“What am I grateful for?”

It’s like Tony Robbins says, it’s all about the focus and the questions you ask. Your focus will determine your results. Ask yourselves these questions daily and you will train yourself to become grateful or life.

I appreciate these questions. I’ve started doing a small gratitude exercise every day and it has really helped lift the mood of the whole day or my mood when I wake up (if I do it just before bed). The feeling of gratitude is amazing, it opens my heart and makes me feel all fuzzy ;)

I did share a bit of those things that made me grateful over at my little blog. Still I would like to take the time to answer those questions properly during the day,

Thanks for sharing these great bits, those questions can lead to a quick change in mood and a wonderful day.

Being Grateful is a great way to start everyday. A friend of mine and I send a text message to each other every morning with the things we are grateful for… it’s a great way to start the day!

I’m a big fan of the gratitude list. If I’m feeling a little down, I simply get out a peace of paper and list 10 things I’m grateful for. A heart full of gratitude has little room for conceit and sadness.

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Thanks for the post, particularly the list of questions – I found answering them helpful and insightful and just what I needed to celebrate 2009 and take this celebration (gratitude) into 2010. I’ve shared the questions with family and friends (with acknowledgment of course). It’s been a wonderful New Year gift – something I have loved receiving and loved sharing with others … Happy New Year!

A superb list of questions Mary! Gratitude is just so powerful and in my opinion the only emotion that isn’t surrounded by illusion.

Have a very happy new year!

Gratitude is so easily overlooked, and its power is usually never fully recognized. I am truly grateful!
Have a great new year!
